WHAT IS YOUR DREAM JOB TO START YOUR CAREER WITH?
I’d love to work as a gameplay animator, ideally in the UK. Studios such as Ubisoft and Creative Assembly are two studios I’ve been keeping an eye on, but am happy to work in any other studio that offers trainee or junior positions.
WHAT IS YOUR HOBBY?
Drawing! I spend lots of time sharing my digital work online and making either fan art or my own characters. Sometimes I will also deal with doing commissions for people as a side business. I follow many talented artists to gain creative inspiration and learn from their techniques as well.
WHAT MAKES YOU UNIQUE
I've lived in four different countries and can speak three different languages. This has allowed me to adapt to different environments rather easily. This has also taught me to be open-minded about other cultures and see things from a bigger picture. The unique lifestyles I've lived in each country has altered my own personality traits and given more inspiration for ideas in storytelling.
WHAT ARE YOUR BIGGEST STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES?
I learn rather quickly, am eager to always seek help, and I always strive for improvements in my work. I have a strong attitude in wanting my work to look the best as it can, whatever it may be, as I never want to settle for less.
DESCRIBE A CHALLENGE THAT YOU HAD TO OVERCOME IN YOUR GROUP PROJECTS
On my last group project at Escape, I had to deal with a very long and difficult shot to animate within a week. There were lots of technical issues that required me to solve together with other teammates. On the day before the deadline for the animation, my laptop began experiencing issues where the fan started breaking down. Rather than being stubborn and trying to complete the animation with the risk of the laptop completely breaking, I handed the rest of the work to another teammate. I made sure to keep in contact with them in case they needed any guidance and the shot ended up being completed.
WHICH ANIMATION MOVIE INSPIRED YOU THE MOST TO CHOOSE THIS CAREER PATH?
Lilo and Stitch! I was obsessed with that movie as a kid and it inspired me to want to create my own sorts of characters. I remember spending so much time simply redrawing Stitch because of how much I loved the character. There was also a sense of authenticity to the story that other Disney films didn't have.
DESCRIBE YOUR FAVOURITE ANIMATED SEQUENCE
It's a rather simple scene, but one that stuck and resonated with me. In Kiki's Delivery Service, Kiki finds an artist who spends her time painting birds all the time. When Kiki mentions to the artist that she struggles to use her witch powers correctly, the artist responds with, “Stop trying. Take long walks. Look at scenery. Doze off at noon. Don't even think about flying. And then, pretty soon, you'll be flying again". Ever since this scene, I've been trying to apply the same ideology myself.
WHY DO YOU DESERVE A GREATER SHARE OF SPACE IN THE YEARBOOK?
Having been part of Escape has been a wonderful experience, and I have been ever glad to work along and contribute to amazing projects with other talented team members.
