WHAT IS YOUR DREAM JOB TO START YOUR CAREER WITH?
I have strong knowledge of photography that then progressed into videography and into post production and visual effects. I love this field because it allows me to stimulate my creativity. I find it extremely satisfying to create literally anything I want and make it look realistic. The feeling of accomplishment is the reason I want to work in this industry. I am aiming for a position in Junior compositing because it is where I believe I fit in the best.
DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN FIVE WORDS OR LESS.
Creative, Dedicated, Passionate, Perfectionist, Friendly.
WHAT MAKES YOU UNIQUE?
I am a multicultural individual that can speak 3 languages fluently; English French and Italian which contribute to my ability to effectively communicate with people from diverse backgrounds. I have learned the importance of adaptability and problem solving within a new environment from growing up in different countries. I’ve lived away from my family since the age of 17, putting me to various tests as well as adapting to different school systems across different countries. I grew up in one of the art capitals of the world, Florence (Italy), and have been exposed to art and photography my whole life.
TELL US AN ACHIEVEMENT YOU'RE PROUD OF.
I’m particularly proud of the fact that I moved to America alone, at the age of 17, leaving
my family behind in Italy. This was a challenge as I was fully responsible for myself. Although I lived in America until the age of 7, this was the first time I would attend an American academic system. Up to that point I had only experienced both French and Italian school systems separately. This involved a lot of adjustment and problem solving but I was able to graduate from high school with a 4.0 GPA and got a job as a VFX artist for a year.
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN FIVE YEARS?
Realistically speaking I see myself working as a Junior Compositor working in a Vancouver, BC based VFX House.
WHICH MOVIE INSPIRED YOU THE MOST TO CHOOSE THIS
I was first introduced to the accessibility of VFX through two YouTube channels; Freddy Wong and Corridor Digital. Although originally wanting to study cinematography, I was so amazed by what they were able to achieve from their homes that I ended up becoming more interested in VFX. Game of Thrones was also a huge contributor as it would’ve been my dream to work on the, now cancelled, prequel series.
DESCRIBE YOUR FAVORITE VFX SEQUENCE.
Although this question implied a very difficult task, I’ve settled on the battle between the white walkers and the wildlings accompanied by Jon Snow in Season 7 of Game of Thrones. This extremely complex sequence had me on the edge of my seat for its entirety. The combination of 2D and 3D effects in one scene was enough to satisfy an army of VFX artists. This perfectly executed sequence combines some of the best VFX work I've ever seen. It is also a particularly important battle for the series which adds all the more importance to it. I was surprised at how emotional I was by the end because of the death of an incredible looking CG dragon.
WHY DO YOU DESERVE A GREATER SHARE OF SPACE IN THE YEAR BOOK?
I believe that I am a promising candidate to work in the VFX industry. I have shown strong artistic and technical growth throughout my Higher Education curriculum. I am passionate
and creative, always looking forward to the next challenge and not limiting myself. I am serious about starting a career as a 2D VFX artist. My multicultural background allows me to have a better understanding and adaptability to new and diverse environments than your typical applicant.
