I am passionate 3D Artist, aspiring to develop my skills in lighting and environments. I’m always looking for the next challenge to create something visually stunning and be part of a booming team! Presenting myself as Producer and 3D Lead throughout third year projects allowed me to explore and widen my knowledge in every aspect of the VFX pipeline. Through my studies, I have found that I thrive most when I’m helping others and developing innovative approaches to creative problems! There will always be pressures no matter what you do, but how you deal with that pressure defines your own success.

GET TO KNOW AIDAN

Describe yourself in 5 words.

Amiable, confident, ambitious, methodical, innovative.

What three things would you take to a desert island and why?

While on a desert island (not sure if I’m stranded here…), I’d firstly make sure to take the book “How to Survive on a Desert Island” – Jim Pipe, no need to explain why there.
I’d also ensure I had a decent laptop with a Starlink Dish - just in case I needed to whip out a few last-minute renders.
And finally, a Tassimo machine, because nothing beats a good book and a hot coffee while waiting for a render?!

What are your biggest strengths and weaknesses?

As an individual, I naturally have strong leadership skills, which makes me an excellent team player as I genuinely enjoy helping others, and feel as though I excel in doing so.
My biggest weakness is that I’m truly a perfectionist. Now it may sound like the ‘typical’ answer, but personally, it’s absolutely a weakness. Although it means I have a very sharp eye and am drawn to the smaller details, it also means I put a lot of pressure on myself to achieve the most, and can often be overly ambitious.

Describe a challenge that you had to overcome in your group projects.

Throughout all our group projects, one of the major challenges I overcame as both Producer, and 3D Lead, was overall communication. Creating a successful project relies on ensuring a consistent collaboration between all team members.
With most people in the team having other commitments, it was extremely important to make sure everyone always knew their tasks and progression of each shot. To ensure a smooth-running pipeline, I developed systems that organised the projects and allowed the team to easily track their development as and when their schedule allowed it.

Describe your favourite VFX sequence.

Inception'. One of the most mind-bending films of modern cinema – inspiring the creation of more recent masterpieces such as 'Doctor Strange'. My favourite VFX sequence in this film is from the city bending scene, where Cobb is explaining to Ariadne how the dream space works.
This scene always amazes me, with its seamless integration of CG to real world, and the expert level of compositing skills required to pull of something at this scale. The visual experience created throughout this scene was something that instantly drew me to visual effects all those years ago.

What was your crowning moment of your time at Escape?

It would have to be taking on the role of Producer for our award-winning short film, 'Shimmer', where we created an incredibly cinematic sequence with an amazing group of artists. The successes of these projects, and the knowledge I’ve absorbed along the way, have made me so much more confident to continue my career in visual effects!
