I am currently a third-year student studying BA(Hons) in the Art of Computer Animation with a goal to work in the film industry. I am passionate about film and cinema, extremely enthusiastic and driven to succeed. From a young age I always had a creative drive and loved to draw, paint, and sculpt. I also enjoy working with technology and, after completing a BTEC in Computer Game Development, I realised that I could combine both these skills working in 3D animation. I plan to work in the creative industry, preferably in animation, film or computer gaming and would ideally like to work in 3D animation pre-production, lighting, or background. I am also interested to work in the business side of these creative companies in a role in Human Resources or Business support.

If you were an animal, which one would you be? and why?

A Golden Eagle: The reason being that they are native animals of Mexico and that is where I am from and I am proud to be Mexican. There is history behind the animal for Mexicans as it is on the national flag too which dates back to the Aztec period. Also, I would like to be some sort of bird as they are able to fly and get a different perspective.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I would definitely love to travel the world so the possibility of working in a company remotely, and being able see different countries and different cultures, really excites me. The reason I like this idea is because, if you explore the world and see different people, you get some many stories out of it and being an animator that is an endless amount of storytelling to gain.

Describe a challenge that you had to overcome in your group projects.

I think one of the many challenges I had to overcome in previous groups is communicating with each other and being on the same page as everyone else on the team. This could be asking the team for advice or help with something that I, or one of my teammates, were struggling with.

Which animated movie inspired you the most to choose this career path?

There are so many different and diverse animations out there from Walt Disney to Cartoon Network. I reckon animation is endless and it's an incredible way to communicate with the audience, so you do not have to always speak that a specific language to know what is happening. I think that is why I was so amazed by this career path. If I had to choose one my all-time favourite animated film it would be Lady and the Tramp as that is how I chose my dog from the spaniel family.

If your life was a movie what would it be?

I believe that if my life were a movie, I would like it to have the following 3 genres: Comedy, Romance & Action. The reasoning behind this is that I love to laugh and every moment I want it to be fun and filled with laugher. Romance because I have so much love to give to friends and family which is always comforting to have. Finally, Action as like I said previously, I like to travel, and it would be amazing to go on different adventures! So, if I had to base it on a particular film specifically, maybe a combination of Top Gun and Pretty Woman.

What was your crowning moment of your time at Escape?

Overall, I really enjoyed my experience working on the master’s project for “ALMA” as I got to experience working with motion capture tech (Xsens) and I got to help retarget the motion capture. The VFX project 'Little Gestures' was interesting to me as the workflow was quite different to the animation projects and collaborating with the VFX team was something new and different. Working on animation projects such as 'Hat Shop', 'Nefertiti' and 'Side Quest' in different roles and tasks to do as well as animating. All of these shows me how much time and attention the team and I have pulled through to get them done and to a high standard.
