Hi! My name is Louis and I am a 3D Character Animator finishing up my third year at Escape Studios. I love to work alongside others and assist in bringing a vision to life, providing my own unique flair where I can; in an industry changing so rapidly I look forward to being a part of its growth! 😁⭐

GET TO KNOW LOUIS

What hobbies do you have?

When I'm not animating, I'm doing some reading or graphic design, collecting vintage T-shirts or watching 'Dr. Katz Professional Therapist'.

If you were an animal, which one would you be and why?

I would be a guinea pig. That would be funny I think.

What job position would excite you the most to start your career with?

I hope that my first job in industry can be an internship or Junior Animator role, where I can learn from experienced professionals while still utilising the skillset I have gained up to this point!

Describe a challenge that you had to overcome in your group projects.

In "Picture Us", the team of Unreal Engine artists were tasked with rendering each painting / scene with its own unique style, some of which were more painterly than others. As the Animation Lead, it was important to encourage the use of stronger silhouettes that could be read clearly regardless of the outcome in Unreal.

Which animated movie inspired you the most to choose this career path and why?

The Incredibles' was the first movie my dad took me to see in a theatre and to this day never fails to inspire me. Watching the 'Making Of' documentary a few years ago, the passion and energy that the Animators put in to that production was and is still pure motivation for me!

Describe your favourite animated sequence.

There is a shot in Ratatouille that shows Linguini struggling to lug his bicycle into his tiny Paris apartment, it's an odd one but that's exactly what makes it so entertaining to me.

What was your crowning moment of your time at Escape?

My crowning moment would have to be the latest Unreal Engine short film I had a hand in, 'Picture Us', where I was trusted with the role of Lead Animator. This was a team that had been formed during our online classes in the previous year and producing this short with them in-person was no doubt the highlight of my time here.
