I am a 3D Animator who is interested in working in film and television. My desire for animation comes from seeing a sentence become a story and eventually come to life through imagery. While studying to become an Animator, I have also learned about other disciplines that are key in the Animation industry such as directing, producing and lighting. After graduating, I am looking forward to developing my skills as an Animator and someday I hope to direct films. As Merida says “Our fate lives within us. You only have to be brave enough to see it.”

GET TO KNOW PRIYA

Describe yourself in 5 words.

Kind, organised, creative, methodical, optimistic.

If you were an animal, which one would you be and why?

I would like to be a baby dolphin as they are excellent communicators and real team players too. They are intelligent when it comes to training and problem-solving. As a tiny person, a baby dolphin represents my physique too!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I see myself finally settling in the UK after studying abroad to pursue my dreams as an Animator. I hope to expand my skills and eventually be a Lead Animator. However, my Masters's degree has made me more curious about potentially opening my own animation studio. Whatever decision I make, I hope to see myself creating work that I am passionate about.

What job position would excite you the most to start your career with?

I would love to be a 3D Animator at the start of my career. I love to animate creatures and characters and bring them to life in fun or emotional pieces of film. Although animation would excite me the most, I also enjoy producing films.

Would you rather be a wizard, jedi or superhero and why?

I would be a wizard. Wizards could cast a spell that a Jedi or superhero could not do. A wizard like Harry Potter has a range of skills and possibilities because it's about learning spells.

Which movie or game inspired you the most to choose this career path and why?

Big Hero 6'. I watched it at a key point in my life when I was struggling and trying to find out who I am and who I wanted to be. The reason this film stood out to me was because of the story. The emotional connection I gained from seeing a loved one die and how Baymax was always there for Hiro, inspired him to move forward and accomplish his dreams in these circumstances. That connection I felt was the reason I wanted to be an Animator. I realised how inspiring it can be as an Animator and I knew I had to find a way to be a part of it.

What was your crowning moment of your time at Escape?

My crowning moment at Escape was directing the film ‘Our Ocean’. It was my first time directing, collaborating with an external client and also learning the business behind running a studio.
