Hello, my name is Mariam Hussein and I am a Masters student studying the Art of Visual Effects. I am passionate about Creature Modelling which is my specialism in VFX however, I also am passionate about producing which is one of my strongest skills and is something I can see myself take on as a career in the future.


What makes you unique?

What makes me unique is being a woman in VFX. I have learnt to adapt technical skills and knowledge to working completely remotely online during my third year of university and completing the Masters course it has allowed me to poses leaderships skills in business and marketing.

If you were an animal, which one would you be? and why?

I would describe myself as a cheetah and a wolf, Cheetahs are entrepreneurs who want to move ahead fast. Wolfs are highly intelligent animals who are caring, playful, and above all are devoted to family, they also pose a strong leaderships skill in leading a pack.

What are your biggest strengths and weaknesses?

My strengths are being a leader, team player and a technical thinker. I worked as a producer in my current course I worked in project managing, my weaknesses would be knowledge, you’re not always going to know an answer for everything I use this to my advantage to learn from things.

Describe a challenge that you had to overcome in your group projects.

During my third year of university our project got cut short due to the pandemic and had to work remotely completely last minute and short notice, I overcame that by finding solutions of an online platform for communication, project management and an online folder system that people can easily access.

Which game or movie inspired you the most to choose this career path?

I would say Space Jam, The Mummy and Tranformers, these movies are completely different genres but are my favourite. The Mummy has always inspired me with its historical story as well as its action adventure. Transformers pushed me to VFX because of how amazing it is.

If your life was a movie, what would it be?

The Mummy is something I feel connected to as I come from a Arab background with family who are Egyptian as well as the story showing a family on a journey, I relate to this as I enjoy sight-seeing and learning the cultures of different countries with my family.

What was your crowning moment of your time at Escape?

My crowning moment would be how far I have developed my skills at escape as I started with no much knowledge and have achieved a great amount. I also feel another moment of mine was being director in my third year of university where I chose to direct The Lost City of Aztlan the people has thought would not be successful due to the fact that that the theme was a jungle environment however my team managed to go over and beyond achieving a successful outcome.
